The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), in its commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue in the region, presents the preview of the film “El Extraordinario Viaje del Dragón” (The Extraordinary Journey of the Dragon) by Venezuelan Japanese filmmaker Kaori Flores Yonekura, to be held at Trasnocho Cultural multi-space cultural centre on Tuesday, 23 September.

The feature film poetically and emotionally explores the history of migration and identity through the invaluable photographic archive of Yoshitomi Furuya, the director’s great-uncle. His images narrate an extraordinary life between 1933 and 1945, from his time as a soldier at the foot of Mount Fuji, his extensive journey as a migrant through Peru and Venezuela, to becoming a prisoner during the Second World War. Through the metaphor of the dragon, a being that adapts and transforms, the work connects the memory, myth and reality of the migrant.
This initiative, supported by SELA, the Japanese Embassy in Venezuela, Lidotel Venezuela, Canguro and Rexona, promotes fundamental values for the region such as inclusion and intercultural respect. The themes of migration, adaptation and the search for identity addressed in the documentary resonate deeply with the historical and contemporary realities of Latin America and the Caribbean, encouraging a necessary reflection on our common origins and destinies.
“The Extraordinary Journey of the Dragon” is produced by Nuevo Objetivo Film in co-production with Eva Equipments and with the support of Venezuela’s National Autonomous Centre for Cinematography (CNAC) for its post-production. The film will have its commercial premiere in Venezuelan cinemas on 2 October 2025.
