SELA joins the South American Conference on Migration as observer organisation

With the objective of contributing to the coordination of regional efforts to promote safe, orderly and regular migration, as well as to strengthen best practices in public policymaking and decision-making in the area of migration in the region, the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) has become an observer organisation of the South American Conference on Migration (CSM).

The incorporation of SELA as an observer in the CSM is important for the fulfilment of the purpose of strengthening its efforts in the exercise of its functions as an international cooperating agency.

SELA's Work Programme for 2022-2026, through the Social Development Area, provides for taking greater advantage of the opportunities for improvement offered by human mobility, understood from an integral vision that involves countries of origin, transit and destination.

The South American Conference on Migration (CSM) is a regional consultative process, made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. It was created at the beginning of the 21st century by the countries of South America and constitutes an intergovernmental space whose objective is to establish a regional migration policy through the debate of ideas and the promotion of best practices. Colombia currently holds the Presidency Pro Tempore.
