SELA welcomes Lula da Silva's electoral victory in Brazil

The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) congratulates the people of Brazil on their historic presidential election this Sunday, in which Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was elected as the new president of Brazil for the period 2023-2027.

Former president Lula da Silva won the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil on Sunday with 50.84% of the votes, compared to 49.16% for the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, with 99.10% of the ballots counted.

The leader of the Workers' Party (PT), who governed between 2003 and 2010, will return to the presidency of Brazil as of 1 January 2023 for the next four years.

During the election campaign, Lula da Silva promised to “rebuild” Brazil, to end hunger, which today affects some 33 million Brazilians, and to “place the poor in the budgets” of the State, combining social, fiscal, and environmental responsibility.

From SELA we salute the new president of Brazil and ratify our commitment to more and better integration for the region.
