As part of his official visit to Cuba, the Permanent Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), Ambassador Lesly David, held a meeting with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade (MINCEX), Oscar Pérez Oliva. During the meeting, both officials reaffirmed their commitment to further working together to promote regional integration and cooperation.

The Permanent Secretary of SELA presented the main pillars of the Secretariat’s work programme, including the promotion of food security, mitigation of the effects of climate change, trade facilitation, with an emphasis on improving port connectivity and operability, and productive coordination.

In this last regard, SELA and MINCEX have worked together to identify productive sectors with export potential, a line of action of particular interest to Cuba.

Within the framework of EXPOCARIBE 2025, held in June this year, SELA presented the results of the study Mapping of Potential Productive Niches conducted for the member countries of ALBA-TCP, highlighting opportunities for the development of intra-bloc productive complementarities.

This meeting is part of SELA’s work agenda, which promotes sustainable development and Latin American and Caribbean integration.
