Uruguay hosts launch of second edition of the Public Policy Index for MSMEs in LAC

Uruguay becomes the seat for the launching of the second edition of the Public Policy Index for MSMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean (IPPALC), organised by the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and CAF-development bank of Latin America, with the collaboration of the National Directorate for Handicrafts, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Dinapyme) of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) of Uruguay.

The second edition of the Public Policy Index for MSMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean will be launched on 27 and 28 June 2022 at the headquarters of CAF-development bank of Latin America, in Montevideo, Uruguay, with the participation of the countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru), together with Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The objective is to advance in the optimisation of public policies to support SMEs and the strengthening of regional coordination mechanisms.

The first edition of the Public Policy Index for MSMEs (IPPALC) concluded with the publication of the report Policies for Competitive SMEs in the Pacific Alliance and Participating South American countries, which was presented at a high-level regional meeting held in April 2019 in Lima, Peru.

Following the findings of the first phase of implementation of the tool, the participating countries have been able to make progress in optimising public policies aimed at SMEs, strengthening mechanisms for the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of policies.

The commitment between SELA, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and CAF-development bank of Latin America will allow the application of this tool for the preparation of a new analysis that responds to the concerns of the countries and becomes a reference framework for the development of instruments to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as an engine for inclusive and sustainable growth.
