Background

 

The Meetings of International Cooperation Directors for Latin America and the Caribbean have been held within the framework of SELA since 1978 in order to promote and encourage a permanent meeting space so that the international cooperation directors of the region and various actors of international and South-South cooperation may exchange information, ideas, experiences and best practices on different topics involving cooperation from the Latin American and Caribbean perspective.

 

The “XXI Meeting of International Cooperation Directors for Latin America and the Caribbean”, whose central topic is “Cooperation for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Latin America and the Caribbean”, is being organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the Government of Suriname, through the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation of Suriname. It will be held on 29 and 30 July 2010, in Paramaribo, Suriname.

 

The International Cooperation Directors for Latin America and the Caribbean, representatives of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, regional and international organizations will be present at this meeting, as well as specialists and academicians from the region.

Objectives

  1. Analyze the main issues, trends and prospects of regional and international cooperation within the framework of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Latin America and the Caribbean;

  2. Evaluate new opportunities and areas that may receive cooperation from bilateral and multilateral sources, integration secretariats, regional development banks and other actors in Latin America and the Caribbean; and

  3.  Exchange successful experiences and best practices concerning the effectiveness of international cooperation projects for encouraging and strengthening micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the region.

Transport

 

Most of the Hotels offer transportation from the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport and the hotel. Arrangement should be made upfront.

 

Le Grand Baldew (Tel: 597/47 47 13) provides service between the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport and Paramaribo hotels. The 47-km trip takes about 45 minutes when traffic and weather are favourable. You must reserve 24 hours in advance.

Migration Information  in order to enter Suriname

The SELA Member States that require visa to enter Suriname are the following:

In such cases, SELA can request the Ministry of Affairs of Suriname to issue courtesy visas, to participate in official events.

In order to speed up arrangements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, those participants that require visa must:

  1. Fill in the visa application form and attach a picture,

  2. Copy of the itinerary,

  3. Copy of page(s) of the passport containing their picture, name(s) and the expiration date.
