Honduras assumes Chair of the Latin American Council of SELA

Honduras took over the Chair of the Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) from Argentina on Wednesday, during the XLIX Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of the organisation, held in Caracas.

The Latin American Council is the highest decision-making body of SELA and every year the Chair changes. On this occasion, Honduras assumes the Chair, Barbados the First Vice-Chair, Colombia the Second Vice-Chair and Cuba the Rapporteurship of the Latin American Council.

The Ambassador of Honduras in Venezuela, Scarleth Romero, highlighted her commitment to work for the integration of the region by becoming the first woman to chair the Latin American Council of SELA, the highest decision-making body of the organisation.

During the XLIX Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council, SELA renewed its commitment with its Member States to achieve more and better integration through a common regional agenda that contributes to the growth of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Latin American Council is the highest decision-making body of SELA and is made up of one representative of each Member State. Its attributions include considering, evaluating and approving: the work programme for the following year; the annual report submitted by the Permanent Secretariat; the budget and financial status of the mechanism, as well as examining the activities of the Permanent Secretariat and the Action Committees

In its 48 years of uninterrupted work, SELA has become a regional organisation of reference, conducting consultation and coordination, cooperation and joint economic and social promotion tasks, of a permanent nature, with international legal personality, before countries, groups of nations, forums and international organisations.
