Honduras ratifies commitment to SELA

During the XIV Special Meeting of the Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), Honduras reiterated its commitment to the organisation and announced that it will resume its functions as a Member State, in order to coordinate efforts in favour of regional integration.

In their intervention before SELA's highest decision-making body, the Honduran authorities participated virtually to reiterate their decision to rejoin the organisation as part of the alliances necessary for sustainable development.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Honduras, Gerardo Torres Zelaya, informed of the decision of the Government of Honduras to resume its functions as a Member State. “On behalf of President Xiomara Castro and Foreign Minister Enrique Reina, we wish to notify our intention to join SELA in due form. We appreciate the insistence on the invitation, we have taken note of what has been said here, we express our willingness to resume our work and we are waiting to carry out the appropriate procedure to rejoin. We send you greetings from the Executive, which looks forward to your success in your highly important work for Latin America.”

“We are happy to have you back. We had noticed your absence and invite you to return to your rightful place in the membership,” said the Chairman of the Latin American Council, Mauricio Vizcaíno.

Honduras has been a member of SELA since 14 June 1976 and has always been close to the integration and economic development policies of the region.
