Association of Caribbean States Before Cooperation Challenge

Cienfuegos, January 23, 2015 (PL).- The essence of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) is based in the promotion of cooperation between the peoples of the big basin, ratified its General Secretary, Alfonso Munera.

The Colombian diplomat, who is part of the jury of the edition 56 of the literary prize Casa de las Americas, mentioned to Prensa Latina that in a geopolitical space sealed by the big asymmetries of the nation members the action unit becomes more necessary.

The connectivity between the integral states of the community, which affects in big measure the small islands of the Oriental Antilles, it turns out to be another obstacle for the development that needs to be solved, pointed the doctor of history of Latin America and the United States from the university of Connecticut.

Regarding the tourism, economic activity of which live at present day 14 islands of the Caribbean, Munera considered the importance of achieving a politic of sustainable development that minimizes the ecological damage.

But it is necessary to protect the leisure industry as main source of revenue of these peoples, which in addition to the mentioned islands includes continental territories such as those of Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia, and the Mexican Riviera Maya, enphasized the Colombian exambassador in Jamaica.

On the cooperation in the field of education he quoted the initiative that he promoted during his period as ambassador in Kingston, dedicated to the student exchange between nations of the group, especially in the summer time.

Many of this young people, despite the linguistic differences, were astonished at the similarities that joined them, remembers Munera in the calm environment of Cienfuegos, 250 kilometers to the Southeast of Havana, where he jury of the prize Casa de las Americas has its head office.
