Caracas, November 20, 2014 (PL).- Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) announced its support for a regional survey on trade facilitation, in order to create mechanisms to benefit the countries of the South.

In a statement issued yesterday, the agency said that the study is conducted by the Regional Commissions of the United Nations, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific and Western Asia, along with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Economic Development (OECD).

The survey aims to collect data on the implementation of measures to facilitate the exchange and cross-border paperless trade in their Member States. Meanwhile, SELA will direct the survey to attenders of the Sixth Regional Meeting on International Trade Single Windows which was held in late October in Trinidad and Tobago.

The results will allow the countries included in the query to better understand and monitor progress in this area as well as support the development of evidence-based policies.

They may also provide a platform for exchange of knowledge between regions, and further strengthen collaboration through mode South-South Cooperation.

SELA, based in Caracas, was created in 1975 and brings together 28 nations of the region.
