XXVIII Latin American Council of SELA
will be held in Caracas from 7 to 9 April


Caracas, 2 April 2003.- The XXVIII Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council         of SELA will be held in Caracas from 7 to 9 April. The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías has confirmed his attendance at the aforementioned meeting.

The Latin American Council, the highest decision-making body of SELA, will examine administrative and institutional aspects of the organization and approve the work programme for the year 2003. The Permanent Secretariat will also submit its report of activities for the year 2002.

The meeting, consisting of a technical and ministerial phase, will be inaugurated on

Monday 7 April at 10:00a.m. by the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Otto Boye, and by the Chairman of the Latin American Council, to be elected in a meeting prior to the inauguration. The second phase - the ministerial - shall be inaugurated on Tuesday, 8 April at 5:00p.m. by the Venezuelan President.

The Latin American Economic System (SELA), headquartered in Caracas, is a consultation and coordination body, made up of 28 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, and established in 1975 by the initiative of Venezuela and Mexico and its statutes and objectives were being established through the Panama Convention.
