XV Meeting of Directors of International Cooperation
for LAC organized by SELA and Government of Uruguay
Caracas, 04 February.- The XV Meeting of Directors of International Cooperation for Latin
America and the Caribbean will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, from 11 to 13 March of this
year, organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American Economic System (SELA)
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
The main theme of this meeting, which will take place at the headquarters of the Latin
American Integration Association (ALADI), will be the analysis of "International
Cooperation in the 21st Century: New Forms and Actors", in the light of the new
trends and prospects for international cooperation and the importance of these issues for
the region.
The Draft Work Programme
includes the following issues: i) Criteria, priorities and procedures for assigning
international cooperation resources to Latin America and the Caribbean; ii) the outlook
for the bilateral development agencies and the multilateral organizations; iii) the new
international cooperation actors, their trends and outlook (private sector); iv) technical
cooperation among developing countries, its trends and outlook; v) relations between
Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean and opportunities for South-South cooperation;
and vi) international cooperation in the area of health.
It is worthwhile stressing that, as part of the issue concerning "South-South
cooperation relations between Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean", high level
representatives from both the public and the private sectors of six African countries
(South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Nigeria) have been scheduled to
participate in this event. Additionally, the issue relative to "Health and
International Cooperation" includes the participation of the Focal Points of the
World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Participants in this event will include Directors of International Cooperation of the
Member States of SELA, representatives of bilateral development agencies, multilateral
bodies and regional and international organizations, as well as non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) that support international cooperation in Latin America and the
Caribbean.
