Venezuela to propose entry of Puerto Rico to PETROCARIBE

Caracas, January 24- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced he would propose in the next meeting of PETROCARIBE the entry of Puerto Rico as special member of the regional bloc.

Maduro stressed that he would also propose Puerto Rico's entry into the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), during the meeting to be held on January 25-29 in Cuba.

"Joining PETROCARIBE does not only mean entering into an energy agreement, which is actually very important. Joining PETROCARIBE also means becoming part of a powerful economic area that will extend to the Caribbean, South America, the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR), and comprises 22 countries of our America," said the Venezuelan president from Caracas Municipal Theater, the venue of a forum entitled, "For a free and independent Puerto Rico”.
