Work Programme 2022-2026 of SELA targets at SDGs

The new Work Programme sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), including its three thematic areas -economic recovery, digitalization and social development- points to specific goals and objectives within a set of key programmes for the region in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030.

The intertwined activities laid down in the draft Work Programme of SELA address the priorities identified during a consultation with Member States, with a focus on vulnerable communities, gender and youth, and specially linked to 14 out of the SDGs.

The thematic area of economic recovery, covering economic integration, trade facilitation and SMEs and of the essence to speed up the reactivation of Latin America and the Caribbean, will contribute to gender equality and empowerment of women and girls (5); decent work and economic growth (8); industry, innovation and infrastructure (9); reduced inequalities (10), and partnerships for the goals (17).

The thematic area of digitalization is a vehicle for better economic and social results through infrastructure and digital conversion as the action plans. Furthermore, it has a direct nexus with the SDGs of no poverty (1); quality education (4); decent work and economic growth (8); industry, innovation and infrastructure (9); reduced inequalities (10); sustainable cities and communities (11), and partnerships for the goals (17).

The thematic area of social development pursues the optimization of living conditions in a sustainable and resilient manner. The programmes of sustainable and resilient development, comprehensive management of disaster risk reduction and climate change, and the promotion of a comprehensive vision of human mobility point to the SDGs of no poverty (1) good health and well-being (3); gender equality (5); sustainable cities and communities (11); responsible production and consumption (12); climate action (13); life below water (14); life on land (15), and partnerships for the goals (17).

Under the Work Programme 2022-2026, SELA aspires, within its budget and abiding by its mandates, to help overcome the current crisis. The Work Programme has been designed to strengthen the capabilities of Latin American and Caribbean countries, overcome the pandemic, shore resilience and focus on issues able to provide novel institutional options for superiorpublic policies and the best practices.
