Digital Maturity Survey in Latin American SMEs, a strategic cooperation alliance between SELA and GIA Consultores

The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), in its task of promoting cooperation and integration through economic and social strategies, has signed a cooperation agreement with Gia Consultores to collaborate in the conduction of a Regional Study on Digital Maturity for SMEs on the continent.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a key pillar of the region’s economy accounting for 20 million enterprises that generate 67% of jobs.

Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, SMEs have had the need to accelerate their digital transformation process to adapt themselves to the adverse environment and continue their operations. BBVA Research's DiGiX 2020 Digitization Index, which measures the degree of digitization in 99 countries around the world, accounts for the improvement of some countries in the region compared to 2019, ranking 42nd with Chile, followed by Uruguay (53), Costa Rica (54), Mexico (65) and Brazil (64). However, little is known about the evolution of this process.

In this connection, SELA will collaborate in the dissemination of a survey that will allow to measure the degree of Digital Maturity of this type of enterprises. The tool will take into account a series of indicators grouped into two main concepts: digital capacity and impact. This initiative will allow to conduct a subsequent study.

Thus, SELA invites SMEs in the region to respond and disseminate the survey that is developed with the aim of adding the largest number of SMEs in the region. The study is a necessary step to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the regional digital transformation process in order to advance with the design of public policies to help their consolidation.
