International Cooperation Directors of Latin America and the Caribbean to analyse the problems and challenges in the wake of the pandemic

During two days of virtual sessions, they will exchange experiences, offers and demands

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), together with the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), will hold online, in Spanish and English, the "XXXI Meeting of Cooperation Directors of Latin American and Caribbean: Unity and Solidarity against the Pandemic", on 03 and 04 December 2020.

With the emergence of COVID-19 in the world, few alternatives have become solutions to mitigate the social and economic effects of the virus. While the borders of many countries remain closed for tourism or business, another, stronger door has opened: international cooperation.

In this regard, the meeting envisages to bring together national representatives, networks, academicians and health and social security agencies to assess actions in the context of the health and socio-economic crisis caused by coronavirus; and analyse the mechanisms to make it more effective and efficient in the short term.

The meeting aims to analyse the following aspects: the exchange of information and experiences, strengths and weaknesses in the subject that will be addressed; facilitate a space for the exchange of offers and demands, in the priority areas defined by the International Cooperation Directors; and assess the main challenges concerning the entry of international assistance for the optimization of actions in the long, medium and short terms.

The opening session will count on the participation of the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and Dr Gibrán Ramírez Reyes, Secretary-General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS).
