SELA and South Centre sign agreement to promote South-South and Triangular Cooperation
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the South Centre have agreed to carry out joint actions aimed at promoting South-South and Triangular Cooperation with a view to strengthening the socio-economic development in developing countries and supporting compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The cooperation agreement was signed on Friday 22 March 2019 by the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and the Executive Director of the South Centre, Carlos María Correa, in Buenos Aires within the framework of the Second UN High-Level Conference on South-South Cooperation (PABA+40).
The parties will be able to carry out joint activities at the technical and institutional levels, mainly: a) Organize meetings, seminars, workshops or forums to disseminate knowledge and advisory on international and regional cooperation or economic and social development programmes; b) Conduct professional exchanges and agree on research studies on topics deemed appropriate to help meet the objectives of each country.
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) is a regional inter-governmental organization that seeks to arrange common economic strategies and cooperation among its 26 Member States, and the South Centre is an inter-governmental organization of developing nations that helps countries combine their efforts and expertise to promote their common interests in the international arena.
