SELA to hold VIII Meeting on Trade and Competition in Brazil

The Working Group on Trade and Competition will analyse the importance and impact of maritime transport, infrastructure and port services on trade and competition in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), together with the Administrative Council for Economic Defence of Brazil (CADE), will carry out the VIII Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Trade and Competition in Latin America and the Caribbean (WGTC) in Brasilia on 10 and 11 October 2018.

The WGTC, coordinated by the Permanent Secretariat of SELA and UNCTAD, was established in 2010 and holds annual meetings with the purpose of promoting cooperation, consultation and coordination in the areas of trade and intra-regional competition.

On this occasion, the meeting will deal with aspects relating to competitiveness and management in ports, port services and infrastructure, anti-competitive practices and control of mergers, as well as the challenges faced by the countries of the region in the areas of competition and regulations in the maritime transport sector.

The opening session will feature Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and the President of CADE, Alexandre Barreto de Souza, accompanied by the Minister of Justice of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Torquato Jardim, among other important personalities.
